Submit a Case

We are providing assistance to the casework team for Senator Lee and Senator Romney by offering a PRF of assistance related to evacuations from Afghanistan

The current Administration has committed to continue to work to evacuate allies from Afghanistan, names are still being submitted to the State Department. Senators will also start opening cases for those with pending paperwork, so it is important to know what may be pending for them, possibly SIV, P-2, or immigration paperwork.

If there are people from Afghanistan here under different visa categories, such as student visas or some work visas, it may be possible for them to file for Asylum. We would suggest reaching out to an immigration attorney before doing this, but the U.S. ending operations in Afghanistan may open a new filing window for some people who maybe did not qualify for asylum before or who did not file within the original limited time. Who this may work the best for will vary depending on their individual circumstances.

A Utahn can make a request to either senators Lee and Romney’s joint casework team, or with their respective member of the House of Representatives, for assistance related to individuals located in or relocating from Afghanistan. We strongly recommend choosing one option for request and not making multiple requests so as to avoid duplication and delays in the information we may receive back from the State Department and USCIS.

WHAT THE CONGRESSIONAL CASEWORK TEAM CAN DO:

  • Gather information about the individuals or families in need who are requesting evacuation for further action and help identify the priority group for family (e.g. citizen, LPR, SIV, P2, vulnerable special group);

  • Submit to the State Department the names, IDs, and locations of individuals or families in need and request assistance and evacuation for the family; (Note: this does not automatically put them on a list for a flight);

  • Make inquiries on pending applications (SIV, P2, I-130s Immigration applications, etc.) and follow the paperwork through the process;

  • Provide the latest information they receive from the State Department, military, and USCIS about evacuations, refugees, and processing of paperwork.

WHAT THE CONGRESSIONAL CASEWORK TEAM CANNOT DO:

  • We cannot add someone to an evacuation flight or compel the State Department to move a family to the top of the evacuation list;

  • We cannot file SIV, P2, or immigration paperwork on behalf of the family with the agencies;

  • We cannot process the paperwork or force the agency to expedite one family’s paperwork ahead of another.
